ART JOURNALING CLASS #14: “The Challenge!”
Date: Sunday April 08/18
Time: 1:00 to 4:00
Challenge Time: For this class, pick one of the challenges below (created by Mike Deakin and used here with his permission) and collect your materials. Bring your stash as usual. Let’s see what you can do with a limited number of supplies!
1. Glue torn fragments of junk mail
2. Add strips of ribbon or trim
3. Cover with gesso or paint
4. Add secret journaling
5. Add a focal point or image
6. Add drips or splatters
7. Make marks with paint or ink
8. Add a frame or border.
Suggested Colour Scheme: Cream, Teal, Blue
Suggested Words: Genesis, Regenerate, Determination, Hope, Resolve (use any or all)
1. Glue down paper/fabric fragments for texture
2. Add texture paste with or without a stencil
3. Cover with a thin layer of paint/gesso
4. Add a focal image or images
5. Stamp script or add hand journaling
6. Add washi tape or paper strips
7. Make marks or add splatters
8. Finish with a border/frame of your choice
Suggested Colour Scheme: Light Blue, Yellow, Green
Suggested Words: Hope, Promise, Meditate, Grow, Chance (use any or all)
Feel free to deviate from the prompts a little if you like.
If you are missing any supplies, please contact the store well advance of the class to order whatever products you might need (and of course Steven will have his “stash” of supplies to share with you if you are missing anything).
**Special Note to Newbies** don’t let the number of the class deter you from signing up. You do not need to have completed any of the previous classes to complete this one. Bring what ever supplies you already have in your stash. Steven will share with you (as well as others- we are a generous groups!) any supplies you are missing and you can always call the store in advance to order missing supplies.
Art Journal Supplies Stash: art journal (any sketch book will do), white gesso, gel matte medium, acrylic paints, black permanent ink pad, artist’s paint brushes (various sizes), palette knife, selection of background stencils, water colour pencils, scissors, water colour paints, water colour crayons, black and white marker (Uniball Signo are the best), heat gun, background rubber stamps, old credit card or scrapper (something with a straight edge), baby wipes, paper towels, water mister, texture or molding paste, colour sprays.
